Wednesday evening flying (and eating Pizza!)

Over the past couple of summers (if you can call them summers!), a few LMAC members have generally met at the field for a spot of mid-week flying on a Wednesday evening from about 17:30 on wards.  We usually try and pack a couple of hours in and fly up to 9pm.   It's not an exclusive meet and is open to all members. To make an evening of it, we generally bring a pizza and cook and eat this in between flights!

We hope to see some of you join us over the summer weeks!  Remember your Pizza's though!

Two unlikely visitors to the flying field!

Matt Chamberlain's new DJI 450 Quadcopter equipped with the Naza controller board got it's maiden FPV flight on Wednesday evening.  Whilst flying FPV, Matt spotted two objects in the lower left corner of the field (not visible from the flight line). The video footage from the On Screen Display shows what he found!

We later managed to heard the two visitors back to their home, but 20 minutes later they were back and Howard was informed!

As can be seen from the video, the Quad is incredibly versatile and stable and it was a shame the ground station recorded the video in Black and White.  Matt's currently waiting for a special camera gimbal which will carry the HD GoPro camera and enable him to tilt the camera to look directly down whilst the aircraft sits in GPS altitude hold!  All very technical stuff!

Another Indoor booked for 18th May 2013 at 8pm

Following another great turn out on Saturday 20th April (19 of us), again due to popular demand another event has been booked for Saturday 18th May 2013 at 8pm.

Given we have made some money over the past three events, I'm happy to report that we have enough in the coffers to offer the May event at £1 each * ( * for those who have attended 2 or more of the previous indoor sessions at Parklands).

A reminder will be sent out closer to the date.

Once again thanks for all your continued support, at this rate it will be running year round!

Reminder --->> New Pilot Open Day NPOD– Sunday 21st April 2013

On Sunday 21st April 2013 from 08:30 onwards the LMAC will be holding a New Pilot Open Day (NPOD).  Therefore the flying field will not be available for LMAC members who are not participating to use the flying field.

This event will be in conjunction with the  GBR/CAA ( Great Britain Radio Control Aerobatic Association).  There will be levy of £7.50 per pilot for the day. To compensate we are planning to provide pilots and supporters with a  bbq/bacon roll.

You must: Hold a BMFA “A” Certificate.

We are aiming to have 4 mentors so that they will have 3/4 new pilots each to coach during the day.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Please contact Andy Prime or Chris Bond (www.bondaero.co.uk) if you wish to participate.

Please ensure that the model you will be bringing with you can meet the BMFA’s 82 db noise limit.  It would be best to get this measured at your Club and to bring a certificate to this effect.  However, we reserve the right to noise check any model that we consider to be noisy!  As regards trimming your model, you might wish to see this guide on trimming on the GBR/CAA website http://www.gbrcaa.org/acrobatfiles/Trim.pdf.

Most of all the emphasis on the day will be relaxed and good fun. We hope you have an enjoyable day and come away feeling that you have learned a lot.

'A hive of activity' - Sunday 7th April

The club was a hive of activity on Sunday 7th April, with the warmer weather bringing more of the 'fairer weather models' out of their workshops!  There were a few maiden flights to negotiate, not least Andy Prime's and Chris Bond's new pattern ships. Andy was flying the Nuance and Chris who has started selling pattern ships via his website (see below) flew the Prolog for the first time.      More details at http://www.bondaero.co.uk/   Good luck with that Chris!

Andy Prime's face was a picture as he walked past Matt Chamberlain's FPV ground station! It was a mixture of a puzzled look and 'WTF is that'!!

Thanks to Colin Wilson and Andy Prime for supplying the pictures.  Keep those pictures, video and content coming and we'll ensure they feature on the web site.

Remember you can follow the site via email if you wish to receive an email notifying you of any future updates. This can be found on the right hand side column of the screen.  Be sure to check out the calendar and website too, as I know a few of you were caught out by the Helicopter AHA event on Saturday.

A warm welcome to the lads from the AHA

The Leicester Model Aero Club was proud to welcome back the guys from the AHA this weekend. The skies over Gumley were graced with some gorgeous Helicopters flown by some very talented pilots. Following the bracing winds that we had during March, thankfully the winds bated a little and it was nice to actually feel the warm of the Spring sunshine!!

Former LMAC member and 2012 3D British Masters Champion Stuart Mott demonstrates some sedate Saturday afternoon flying between the more precise F3C routines!  Very nicely done Stuart.

We look forward to welcome the AHA guys back for the season close, although lets hope it doesn't come around too quickly!

Reminder - AHA Season Opener this Saturday at Gumley

Just a reminder to all LMAC members, there will be no flying this Saturday 6th April as the AHA have their Season opener at the Gumley flying site.

Spectators are more than welcome to come and watch.  Come back next week for a report and pictures on the event.
