*** CANCELLED *** Indoor Flying - Sunday 10th December 2017 *** CANCELLED ***

Good morning all,

I’ve taken the decision to cancel the indoor flying session for this evening 10th December 2017;  I know a lot of you travel a fair distance and in the interest of safety first, I wanted to let you know as soon as possible.   The forecast looks like the snow is going to continue to fall until this evening and is then set to freeze overnight, therefore it’s not worth the risk of travelling.

I’ll look to see if we can squeeze another meeting into January or February 2018 and keep you posted.  This same message, will be posted on Facebook, email and the LMAC website, but please share with anyone who you might have shared with outside of these circles.

Sorry for any disappointment caused. There’s always another day!

If I don’t see you before Christmas, then I wish you all the very best.

Lighting up the LMAC sky

Tom Barwick and Rob Mac shared the below pictures of a recent evening flying session demonstrating the effect of light trails - skimming.  Tom and Rob worked together to get these pictures. The first is Rob's attempt at spelling LMAC in light and the other is a general flying flight path.  Very effective guys!

Not long until Christmas - LMAC Christmas meal booked for Sunday 3rd December 2017 6.30pm

The LMAC Christmas meal is now booked for the Sunday 3rd December at 6.30pm..... for those who are wanting to go please let Virginia Robson know as soon as possible. Virginia will need a £10 deposit to secure your seat by the end of September 2017.  Menus and price will be issued shortly.

Indoor Flying Dates for 2017/2018 booked

Six Indoor Flying dates booked as follows all 18:30 to 22:00 all in the large blue sports hall at the Sports Connexion in Ryton:

  • Sunday 29th October 2017
  • Sunday 19th November 2017
  • Sunday 10th December 2017
  • Sunday 14th January 2018
  • Sunday 11th February 2018
  • Sunday 11th March 2018

There has been a £5 increase for the venue for the evening (£65 total), but I've negotiated this will be fixed for the 2018/19 season too with no further increase.   Therefore we need 13 people to break even on the evening.  I'm not proposing increasing the cost you pay, but obviously if we cannot get the 13 people to cover the costs then I may need to reassess this. I have the same stipulation with all the bookings that if they get a more lucrative wedding booking, then they may bump us to the Cricket Hall. Obviously they would need to give me plenty of notice on this. As of January 1st 2018, all the nets are being removed from the Cricket Hall, so we'd need to have a look at this to see how it improves are flying options. Hopefully we'll be fine for the large sports hall as per the dates above.   I'll add the dates to the Club Website Calendar and advertise a little wider this year.  Please share with your other flying friends if they wish to attend.  Look forward to see you for the first event on 29th Oct. There is scope to add more dates, but we will assess that as we progress.

Get building a couple of indoor models, I may even retire my indoor Crack Laser which is still going after about four or five indoor seasons!

Attention - Fernie Hunt Pony Club Meeting - Please avoid overflying our North boundary during this time.

We have been informed, by the District Commissioner for the Fernie Hunt Pony Club, that there is to be a Pony Club Camp on our neighbor's land during the period July 24th to the 28th. We have been asked to refrain from flying model aircraft over the area that they are using for their camp, so can you please avoid, where possible, flying over the fields in use during that time. Thank you for your cooperation.

BMFA Free Flight and Power Nationals back on at RAF Barkston Heath in 2017

From the following BMFA Update:

https://www.bmfa.org/News/News-Page/ArticleID/2441/2017-Free-Flight-Nationls-Power-Nationals-at-RAF-Barkston-Heath

We are pleased to announce that arrangements to hold both the 2017 Free Flight Nationals and the 2017 Power Nationals at RAF Barkston Heath have been confirmed. The Free Flight Nationals will take place over the late May Bank Holiday weekend (27-29 May) and the Power Nationals will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (26-28 August).
The construction work which rendered the airfield unavailable to us last August for the 2016 Power Nationals has now been completed and the RAF have re-affirmed their long established and ongoing commitment to support our two Nationals wherever possible, subject to operational requirements.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Commandant of RAFC Cranwell and his team for their assistance and cooperation in facilitating our continued use of RAF Barkston Heath for 2017. Further details will be made available in the BMFA NEWS and on the BMFA website in due course.

The sad loss of our Honorable President - Peter Valentine

It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss that I must report the passing of our honorable President "Peter Valentine" at 6am on Monday 2nd January 2017.
Those of you that knew Peter will know how tirelessly he worked for our club for many years where he held several Committee roles.
It is expected that Peter will be cremated as per his wishes and his ashes scattered at our flying site at Gumley.

God bless your soul Peter, a true friend to all at LMAC taken far too soon, Fly high.
