Sunday 21st December 2014 Indoor Flying meeting

Just a reminder, the first of our 2014/2015 Indoor Flying events at our new venue Sports Connexion at Ryton on Dunsmore CV8 3FL. is running on Sunday 21st December 2014 between 18:30 and 22:00.

The weather forecast for the next week doesn't not look particularly favorable, so why not get some stick time and come and join the LMAC indoor fun?  It maybe the final of the BBC Apprentice on Sunday evening, but that's what BBC iPlayer is for!!

Hopefully we will have some hot drinks and biscuits available too and lots of friendly banter.

We hope you can join us.  Failing that, another session is booked on the 11th January 2015 at the same venue and hopefully you'll be able to try out some of your Christmas flying presents!

On behalf of the LMAC Committee, we wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous healthy New Year.

Indoor Flying Update

As you will have no doubt seen with the regular LMAC email updates. Due to the Roller Skating sessions being extended at Parklands until 10pm, the Saturday time slot is no longer available for us for our indoor flying activities. We're currently trying to seek an alternative venue which will provide us with a couple of hours per month at a reasonable price.  At present, this is proving difficult to find, but the search will continue.

Further updates will be provided, so keep an eye on the Indoor page and future email updates.

If anyone has any suggestions in terms of suitable available venues then let Matt Chamberlain know.

Gala Day 2014 - 17th August 2014

Thanks to Howard Murphy for providing the pictures from LMAC Gala Day 2014. After a wet start, the rain cleared by the wind remained! There was still an excellent turn out and I hope the members and guests enjoyed the BBQ food which was kindly laid on.  Many thanks to all those who helped and made the day a good one.

A 1st and 2nd for LMAC

The ink on the new BMFA Multi-Rotor A and B tests had hardly had time to dry having been published late on Tuesday 12th August, but LMAC members John Payne and Matt Chamberlain became the first known people in the country to pass the new BMFA A Multi-Rotor test on Wednesday 13th August as the sun was going down.  The tests were examined by our newly appointed Helicopter Examiner Richard Van Aken and were also overlooked by BMFA Cheif Examiner Andy Symons who was visiting LMAC on Wednesday to carry out some noise testing experiments.

Well done to both John and Matt and hopefully some of the other LMAC multi-rotor pilots will work towards these achievements too.

Well done - Helicopter BMFA Tests

Congratulations to Richard Van Aken and Matt Chamberlain who passed their BMFA Helicopter Examiner and B certificates respectively on Saturday 26th July. We now have a Helicopter examiner once again, so anyone wishing to work towards their A and B tests is encouraged to do so and Richard and Matt will be on hand to assist.

Thanks to those LMAC members who patiently waited to fly whilst we completed the tests. Many thanks also to BMFA Examiner Adrian Clarke who traveled across from Stratford Upon Avon to carry out the tests.

Warbird Day 2014 - 20th July 2014

Many thanks to all those members and visitors who attended the LMAC Warbird 2014 themed day. Having checked the sign-in book, there were 36 distinct members who attended the site on Sunday and that doesn't include the many visitors who were also present on the day. There were some fantastic models flown and on display. Hopefully this won't be the last of the LMAC 'themed days' and if anyone else has any suggestions for other themed events then please let us know. Enjoy the pictures and hopefully I was able to capture most of the warbirds and other models which were on display/flown.

Helicopter - BMFA Achievement Scheme Day - Saturday 26th July 2014

For all those members who are looking to attain their Helicopter BMFA A, B or Examiner certificates, we have arranged for a BMFA Area Helicopter examiner to visit the club on Saturday 26th July to examine a number of helicopter pilots. The BMFA achievement scheme helps promote safe flying and as club members, this is something which we should all be striving for.

Leading up to the 26th July, we will be running sessions where the different schedules can be practiced and assistance will be provide to help you with this. Just speak to Richard Van Aiken or Matt Chamberlain if you need any help and wish to participate on the 26th July.

We will be keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast leading up to the date, so keep an eye on this page and the LMAC Facebook page for more details.

Similar schemes for Fixed Wing pilots are also being planned; so watch this space!

Flying action from Sunday 4th May 2014

Well the weather for the first May Bank Holiday long weekend has been kind to us so far with many LMAC members making the trip to the immaculate looking flying site.

Howard Murphy shares the first set of the weekend showing the action under the blue skies.  Click on the left and right arrows to scroll through the pictures or alternatively click on the link below to go to the complete set page.  I'm sure many of you will have smart phones and tablets, so if you haven't already, download the free Flickr App from the iTunes and Android Store and you can follow the Leicester Model Aero Club directly through the App.

The second set is from Matt Chamberlain with some shots of the Spitfire taken by Dan Simmonds. The Spitfire flight is a tribute to the late Dennis Belleini who previously built and owned the Kyosho Spitfire. Ironically as we found out later in the day; today actually marks the anniversary of Dennis's death so how fitting that today should be the first time this Spitfire has flown. We hope Dennis was looking down with a smile on his face. :)

I'm sure you'll agree Peter Elsom's electric converted Spitfire looks just stunning. If only we could replicate the merlin engine sound then that would be something else!  Enjoy.

LMAC Flying Action - Sunday 13th April 2014
